Family Ornament

I have been crafting up a storm lately but everything I'm working on are gifts so no sharing just yet. I did take a little time out for a really fun project. Every year I make an ornament to represent our family, I love them and I really love this year's. I have little Squeaker in the baby bjorn, he's almost too big for it!

 Here's a quick how to.

Materials:
Shrinky Dinks available at Michaels
Sharpies or Prisma colors if you've got it like that.
Hole punch, I used the standard 1/4" to accommodate any embossing powder which might get in the hole.
Embossing Powder, I use stampendous, cheap, works great, only takes a little.
oven
toothpick
brown paper bag
clean white paper
ribbon
jump ring (optional)

Draw image onto Shrinky Dinks, I like the ruff and ready.
Cut your shape out and punch a hole.

Bake according to shrinky dink instructions.

When you pull it out you have about 30 seconds to shape it, I transfer the paper to the counter and press it with a stack of clean white paper.

Cut toothpick in half so that one end is flat and place it in the hole so the embossing powder does not fill it.

Cover the surface with embossing powder, being careful to keep it on the ornament, so you do not emboss the ornament to the paper (if you do you can sand it off). Return it to the oven for about 2 minutes, until the powder is liquid, let sit til cool.

Add a jump ring and ribbon and enjoy!

We like to "light" our ornaments with clever placement and manipulation.

I really think that decorating and of course making decorations is my favorite thing about Christmas. I guess that will change as Squeaks grows up. I have big plans for that little stinker. Check back soon to see his first ornament. I bet you can figure out what I'm making over on my Pinterest boards.

Don't forget I'm offering 20% off everything in my shop. Everyone loves handmade gifts, so let me do the work for you!
